How to open a Windows 11 Command
Prompt as Administrator
Windows 11 Command Prompt Administrator allows you to launch programs or change settings by simply typing commands into a browser.
Command-line applications run from the command prompt and offer more options than similar features in Windows GUI.
You can, for example, copy files and folders, run Power-Shell scripts or query specific computer and network configuration information using the command prompt.
Any command that you run when you open a Command Prompt will be executed under the security privileges assigned to the logged in user. If you attempt to run a command line program that requires Administrator privileges you will be denied and shown an error message as follows:



It is possible to open the Command Prompt with Administrator privileges, which will allow you to run any command that you want. We’ll explain this below.
Launching an Administrator Command Prompt on Windows 11
You must open Windows 11 Command Prompt using Administrator privileges.
Click the Start Menu, then type cmd in the search field. Next, click the Start Menu and type strong>cmd> into the search field.



Windows 11 will prompt you to choose Run administrator. This prompt asks you if you’d like the Windows Command Processor to make any changes on your device.
Click on the Yes icon at this prompt.
User Account Control Prompt
After clicking the Yes button, the Windows 11 Administrator Command Prompt Administrator is opened.
The Command Prompt will run with Administrator privileges. As the window title states, “Administrator Command Prompt,” you’ll be in the C.WindowsSystem32 directory.



As we previously noted, the Administrator Command Prompt will start in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder rather than your User Profile (C:Users[account_name]).
This folder contains sensitive files that are essential for Windows’ proper operation. It is recommended to change your user profile.
Type cd Userprofile , and then press the Enter key on your keyboard.
This elevated command prompt allows you to launch programs and access files that require administrative privileges.
